So it seems to me that 5th graders love anatomy. Because today’s dissection was another huge hit. The kids got a hands-on (read: messy and a little bit icky) experience dissecting chicken legs. And boy, did they dissect those legs. Into smithereens. In doing so, they identified chicken leg tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones (which are strikingly similar to our own human leg bones). They discovered what’s inside a bone (fun fact: bone marrow makes your blood cells!) And they realized that when we eat a chicken drumstick, we are actually eating chicken muscle. (Gross.)
