Lolcats, you win this time. This week, geneticists reported preliminary results from a study on the genomic sequences of sassy (I assume) domestic cats. This adorable-sounding research will ultimately help identify the gene mutations involved in shared feline/human diseases (e.g., polycystic kidney disease). If you own a cat, you can actually help out with this effort - just donate a measly $7,500 and you can sequence your cat's genome in the name of science! (And maybe help eradicate some genetic diseases...seems like a pretty good cause.) For more info, check out this Nature News article, "I can haz genomes." (Yes, that's the actual title.
